Perfusionist
Duties and responsibilities:
Clinical perfusionists
pirate circulation equipment during medical situations when it is necessary to
temporarily and artificially replace the patient’s circulatory or respiratory
functions. This occurs during heart surgery and similar operations. Perfusionist
also control the temperature of patients during surgery. Their duties include:

heart- lung machines
Administering
some types of anesthesia

Educational Requirements:
A high school diploma with a strong background in biology and chemistry
is required to be accepted in perfusionist training programs. Admissions preference
is given to students with college science work or experience in respiratory
therapy and medical terminology.
Perfusionist training programs are given at academic health centers and
medical schools and universities. They emphasize
hands-on, practical training. Course
length varies, but for the school to be recognized by the American Academy of
Cardiac Perfusionists, the curriculum must include the supervised performance
of 150 procedures to include 20 pediatric and infant cases.

Representatives work for health care administrators to address the concerns and
special needs of patient satisfaction, investigate complaints, collect
information about patients dissatisfaction, work with departments to resolve
patients problems, and educate staff.

facilities, and in public health agencies.

Requirements

Duties and responsibilities:
Osteopathic
physicians use accepted methods of diagnosing and treating injuries and

allopathic physicians they differ by emphasizing the important of the
musculoskeletal system, holistic medicine, proper nutrition, and environmental
factors in maintaining good health. Osteopaths use hands on approach to medicine

Optometrist
treats vision problems. They treat vision problems by diagnosing the problem

Duties and responsibilities:
Opticians fit
and dispense eyeglasses for patients based upon prescriptions written by
ophthalmologists or optometrists. Optician’s help the customer’s select
eyeglass frames and then measure their faces so that correct size frames can be
ordered. They also measure the distance between the corneas of the eyes so that
the lenses maybe correctly fitted in the frame. Some opticians may own their own
retrial store or work for an optical store. Some also work for optometrists and
ophthalmologists who sell glasses.

Students should
take high school courses in physics,
algebra, mechanical drawing, and geometry. A high school diploma or GED
certificate is needed to begin training as an optician. There are two
types of training programs. Students can either complete an approved

technicians grind and fit eyeglass lenses into frames according to
prescriptions written by ophthalmologists or machine so that lens grinding are
ground and polished. They then fit the frames to the patients. Some thalamic technicians

Operating Room
Technician
Duties and responsibilities:
Operating room technicians
are also called surgical technologist. They assist in preparing operating
room for surgery. They are responsible for having surgical instruments,
sterile bandages and linens, needed fluids, and other equipment ready for the
operation. They may also assist doctors by handing them needed instruments
during surgery and for counting sponges and needles before and after
operation. They deliver specimens to hospital laboratories for patients to
the recovery room.
Average Salary:
$16,000- $22,000
A high school diploma
or GED certificate is required. Many vocational and junior colleges offer
programs in operating room technology, and training may also be taken at
large hospitals. Programs vary between one year to two years. Students receive
training in medical terminology, physiology, and sterilization methods. At the
end of the training period students must pass an examination by the association
of surgical technologists to become certificated.
